16th Annual MUSIC CARES PERSON OF THE YEAR TRIBUTE honoring multi-GRAMMY-winning singer/songwriter James Taylor at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Los Angeles. This annual benefit is MusiCares' signature event to recognize individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the field of music, as well as remarkable commitments to philanthropic and humanitarian causes. The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with a special cocktail reception and silent auction sponsored by AEG that offers an unparalleled range of luxury and one-of-a-kind items, including an Ebony Gibson JR-200 Acoustic Electric Guitar signed by Paul Simon; a Precision Fender Bass autographed by Sting; an AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am VIP package; "France's Finest - The Grand Tour of France" with Viking River Cruises; a Peter Max personal portrait and VIP meet and greet at Max's New York studio; three days and two nights aboard the world-famous Onassis yacht "Christina O" for 10 guests; a ladies 18 carat ruby and diamond ring by Johnathon Arndt Gallery of Jewels; Tesoro diamond cufflinks by Jason of Beverly Hills; and a 2007 Limited Edition Cadillac Escalade. Proceeds provide essential support for MusiCares' Financial Assistance Program, which ensures that music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical and personal need.
The evening is further highlighted by a gala dinner, the awards presentation and a tribute concert featuring a line up of all stars including the Dixie Chicks, Carole King, Alison Krauss, Randy Newman, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Simon, Sting, India.Arie, Jackson Browne, David Crosby, Dr. John, Taj Mahal, Bruce Springsteen and James Taylor himself. Funds raised help support MusiCares' health and human service programs.
